Re-Election
by Katerina Jeng
bigotry & misogyny are chosen
by America, and I’m not at all surprised—
the America I woke to is the same
America I parted with in the night
yet the grief, the disbelief
still smacks my cheek like a November storm
like salt-crusted ice that refuses to melt
in a season when the flurry is relentless
today I saw a congregation of crows
dozens of midnight wings
rustling on pillows of snow—a murder
has never gathered on my street like this
I touch my trembling heart—
bird of aliveness beating
in the palm of my hand
