hello beloved readers! just popping in to share my upcoming writing classes & book events in Colorado:
🌈 on wednesday, august 28th, i’ll be reading at boulder bookstore in Boulder, Colorado
tickets are $5 and act as a voucher for a book. i don’t know too many folks in Boulder, so please send this link to friends you know there! it’s guaranteed to be a nourishing & healing community space, and i would love to meet more queerdos / creatives / revolutionaries in the community 💞
on another note, i’m soooo excited to be doing lots of teaching this fall. growing up, i used to have a “classroom” in my mom’s house where i’d “teach” my mom & her partner. how cool that my path has naturally evolved into fulfilling a childhood dream ☁️
🌈 on saturday, september 28th, i’m teaching a craft class on “decolonizing your writing” at Writing in Color fest at Lighthouse Writers Workshop
in this class, we will question the literary status quo with guided reflection prompts & discussion; and begin to create our own literary standards & conventions. it’s a 2-hour class, in-person in Denver, and open to BIPOC creatives only. learn more & purchase tickets here.
🌈 i’m teaching an extended 4-week version of this class, open to creatives of *all* identities, at Petals & Pages!
i am quite obsessed with the adventure of re-indigenizing my creative practice—it’s a never-ending quest that i’m certain will lead me to building an artistic universe of my own, and creating art that is unequivocally mine. decolonizing takes time because we are unlearning a millennia of conditioning (literally, a millennia+)—so i am very excited to have the blessing of time in this 4-week class where we can let things simmer, and journey into the unknown together. we’ll be meeting in person on monday evenings in September. see the weekly syllabus & save your spot here.
lastly, i am contemplating teaching creative workshops virtually & independently, which would allow me to work with folks outside of colorado and also provide classes at a lower price point. if you’re interested in taking a workshop with me, i’d love to know! please leave a comment or reply to this newsletter with any & all thoughts, including topics you’d be interested in.
i hope you are staying safe & resting a lot! i’m hearing from astrologers that these few weeks are wild planetary-wise, which may present obstacles & set-backs. personally, i am experiencing an extremely s-l-o-w recovery from COVID, which is frustrating—but i am trying to remember that i cannot move faster than my body allows, and that i’m exactly where i need to be.
