I have a colossal amount of respect for anyone who has published a book. It is a dizzying amount of work. And it’s not just the emails, the logistics, the marketing—but even more arduous is the work of putting your heart & soul on display, in their most vulnerable embodiments, for the world to devour. I don’t know that many writers actively choose this. In fact, many writers I’ve spoken to say that they don’t choose to write—we simply must, as if handed an unignorable assignment from God herself.
